University of Malaya (UM) Orientation Week 2017/18 (MHS)

UM ORIENTATION WEEK

First of all, I believe that the students who read this blog will be the one who have officially gain the admission into University of Malaya. Congratulations to all of you as you have gained admission into the top university in Malaysia!

Before I write about my life of orientation week in UM, bear in mind that university life will be totally different compared to your Form Six and matriculation. For your information, orientation week will be the only week where you will still be treated as a child in your whole university life. In university, everything has to be independent. Moreover, everything is based on volunteerism and no one is going to force you to do anything. You can enjoy your campus life but do always remember that academics should always be the first priority.

Here are some important terms that will be used during orientation week.

1. MHS- Minggu Haluansiswa Universiti Malaya, orientation week of UM
2. Freshies- the first year students
3. PM- Pemudahcara Mahasiswa, they are the facilitators who will guide the freshies along the whole MHS
4. DTC- Dewan Tunku Canselor, the biggest hall in UM
5. KK- Kolej Kediaman,Hostel

Now, let me share about my orientation week in UM. (batch 17/18)

-Wearing casual to register is allowed.

In UM, orientation week will mainly be conducted in Malay Language. The main location of the orientation will be in own residential college and the main hall.

Bear in mind that the programme tentative is not always similar in every year.

A) Residential College (KK)

After registration, all freshies need to straightforward check into respective room. You will get the key immediately once you have registered. At the same time, you will get a few shirts. These are the shirts that you are going to wear for the whole week. (unless during exercise)

Orientation is going to officially start immediately after they have given the talk to your parents. All of you will be divided into different groups (sel) and led by respective PM College.

Although some talk are quite useful for the rest of your university life, most freshies will grab the chance to sleep at this time since everyone do not have sufficient sleep.

C) Faculty (Fac)

There is a day where all of the freshies will be given an opportunity to visit respective faculty and guided by course representatives. In this session, you will be introduced to the management members of the faculty and the programme structure. The freshies will also be guided on the courses registration.
