University of Malaya (UM) interview experience 2017

UM INTERVIEW

Introduction

After graduating from matriculation or STPM ,if you apply for interviewed courses,don't be too relaxed first . Your interview will be around the corner . (I mean very fast.)
 
Before applying University of Malaya Faculty of Business and Accountancy (FBA) courses,beside requiring high CGPA in public examination and high co-curricular marks , all students must get at least band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

A) Before interview

I remember at that moment when I checked my interview result on 25 May 2017 . I waited until 12p.m. before the online checking system was opened. (Please be alert of any social media or website to get first-handed information about your UPU application)

To arrive UM by public transportation , here are some ways. (My screen shot on Facebook)

(The easiest way is through KL Sentral for sure,beside your FAMA transportation.)

The interview will be conducted in different days . (Everyone will get different session) Below are the time for that session of interview.

And everyday there are two sessions , which is 8a.m. and 1.30p.m. respectively.

That means there 8 sessions aggregately .How stiff the competition will be !!!

I got on 31 May 2017 at 8a.m. .(Too early ! )

If getting more than one interviewed course for UM but all of the courses are under the same faculty , you need to apply to do the interviews for all subjects at the same time.

*UM Bachelor of Economics is under another faculty and for my session,interview is not needed.

For interview techniques and preparation  , please google yourself ( Interview is not like examination , bear in mind that interview has fixed questions but not fixed answers,you can spot the questions and try to answer it beforehand.)

For peninsular Malaysia , UM campus will be the place of interview. Here is the location of FBA !

So much about pre-interview things , now it is the time for interview , please come early and line up early so you can go back early.

B) Interview Flow and Procedure

All of us were needed to go to 2nd floor of Bangunan Azman Hashim for checking our name and course to be interviewed on a notice board . Later , we had to line up neatly and entered a big hall. ( We were given number card while entering the hall.)

After filling up the whole hall , we were be given a short brief by a lecturer in English language.

After the short brief , we were called according to number. Show them your name in the name list , IC and your public examination result slip. After signing the attendance , a paper would been passed to us. (What the paper is it , haha you have to experience yourself...)

30%~Public examination result

Bonus part
You are recommended or not recommended for the course.

After that , climax came. We would be called to leave the hall in group and rose to the third floor.

We waited at the waiting room to be called later. (Feeling scared is normal but try to be relaxed)

After my number was called, I went inside the room with my partner.
(My interview was in 2 by 2)

I smiled and showed my file.They would the file see but not every part of it.

First question normally will be like this. Both of you need to answer as well.
~Tell me about yourself.
~Describe yourself.
~Introduce yourself.

Later they will ask questions in take turn mode. (You, your partner,you ,your partner until the end)

Here are the example questions
1.Why UM?
2.Why accounting/finance/business?
3.What is accounting/finance/business?
4.Imagine yourself after 10 years?
5.Your experience in school and college or even working experience?
6.Your knowledge about UM?
7.Your knowledge about accounting/finance/business?
8.Your quality to differentiate yourself?

And so on ...

Last question will be...
~Before ending, do you have any question?

For my session,all questions were conducted in English.They would just select a few questions from their list , the whole conversation was friendly and we were more prone to chatting mode .Therefore , you just need to be chilled down .Use your own accent when interacting . ( Just need to make sure your words are comprehensive .)

The whole interview only lasted for about 5 minutes. Then, we were allowed to leave.

Remember to greet at the beginning and ending. (We are civilised right?)

Tips for these few minutes, be as
~Confident
~Professional
~Steady
~Polite
as possible.

C) After interview

Going down and leave. Enjoy yourself and be prepared if you got other interviews. Share your experience on Internet if possible to make sure the juniors can do sufficient preparation in the future.

Reminder
* For my batch , my friends who applied for UM and USM simultaneously in UPU for accounting related course only got UM. As a piece of advice , avoid choosing UM if you truly want USM school of management.
(Just advice it is not a guarantee since system changes every year.But remember UM and USM now are under UPU , you can only get one result in August，same goes with UKM.)

*UKM does not provide direct entrance for bachelor in accounting.You need to study bachelor in business administration for the first year.You can start majoring in accounting from second year based on your performance in the first year and your future plan . The main language of UKM is Bahasa Malaysia .

I think my explanation is clear enough. Good luck if you are interested to enter FBA of UM.

Interview does not mean you will surely be admitted. It is just a possibility. Nevertheless , it will be an irreplaceable experience for your life
